Atlantic crossing

I am new to sailing, got ASA101 and 103 and practicing. I want to do Atlantic crossing in a few years. What would be some of the routes to develop seamanship? I live in Houston. How about Houston to FL, Cancun to Bahamas, Caribbean islands, etc.? I don't have a boat, will charter.

Thank you!

Re: Atlantic crossing

You seem to be going about it the right way. You might want to consider helping on a crossing (eg Canaries - Caribbean or Bermuda - Azores) to get first hand experience. During the ARC-Rally (guided tour across the Atlantic for not-so-confident sailors), it's usually easy to find a short-handed ship welcoming another experienced hand who even pays his own flight back.

Thank you. Sounds like a plan.
