Autohelm 3000 not engaging

I have an older autohelm 3000. I have just finished a 2-week sailing trip to bring my boat home. The autohelm worked great for the first week, then whenever I tried to hit auto it would beep and within a couple of seconds or less would switch back to standby.

I have a Viking 33 with a wheel and belt to the motor for the autohelm. Any help on what might be happening much appreciated.
