Re: Beneteau vs Jeanneau handling

One teensy-eensy difference I've noticed with the newer Jenneaux:

The Sun Odysseys I've sailed (349 and 389) have twin rudders and a hard chine, which play well in a decent breeze, as they'll kind of heel to a point and dig in. I've found that with the 349, in 18-20 kts (but in sheltered, coastal waters), I don't need to reef.

The 389 is a bit better in open water, as you might expect.

Not familiar with newer Benetteaux, having sailed 310, 323, 34, 35.3, 36.7, and 37, none newer than 2014.

Re: Beneteau vs Jeanneau handling

I’ve owned a Beneteau Sense 50, a Jeanneau 42DS and a Jeanneau 349. The Bene and smaller Jeanneau both with twin rudders tracked very well with no tendency to round up. The 42DS sailed well but would round up in a puff if you didn’t stay on the main. I raced the 42DS a lot and speed wise was very similar to a Beneteau 423. I don’t think you can generalize a brand as different models and different age make a big difference even within a brand.
