The perspective is misleading. Although the gap is narrow, there is room to walk around the table. The table does not even become vaguely warm to touch.

It was surprising to me that little heat is generated sidewards from the heater. I had imagined the corner of that settee would be my spot to sit on cold mornings when I first lit the Refleks, but even the floor to ceiling stainless steel safety rail next to the heater remains cool, except near the ceiling.

The two anchors were always planned. I just got a bit carried away with the crabs .

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

We have just received the official photos from KM. The maritime photographer was Arthur Smeets, a lovely bloke who has the best job . His work takes him worldwide: Arthur Op Zee Nautische Fotografie.

We are just heading off to visit the boat, so I will post more later, but this is the first image.

I can't wipe the grin off my face every time I step on board at the moment . None of this is being taken for granted. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to commission this build and to have had the time and opportunity to work on the plans and lengthy specifications, and then watch much of the progress.

And one of the shower. This is an area we found difficult to photograph well, but Arthur got around this by taking a photo through the hatch. The anodised aluminium seat covers the laundry tubs and is just over a metre long:

Wow. Absolutely gorgeous. Worth every penny and every hour you guys poured into the design and details.

Speaking of which, if a hypothetical customer approached KM and simply said "I want a boat JUST LIKE Seaworthy and Noelex's boat, does KM have the details documented sufficiently to do this?

Only if you hire them as consultants to provide feedback on all the little improvements they'd make if they were starting over 8-)

Hi Steve
Yes, they do. Keeping a record of every single matter related to design is (I think) relatively new for KM, but this will help the yard tremendously long term.

We hope other cruisers as well as KM will benefit from some of our ideas. That was the main incentive posting about some of the things we requested that fall into the "unusual" category.

I think KM would be happy to reproduce anything - other than possibly the woodwork . Our specification of solid timber throughout (and Bubinga in particular) proved to be more of a challenge than either KM or we imagined.

We have a few things we would have specified differently (or more tightly) retrospectively, but at this stage they are surprisingly very minor and very few, given that for a fully custom built boat the decisions we needed to make amounted to literally hundreds.

We will need to live with the boat for a while before making a final judgement (and our needs may change in time), but we think this boat will suit us absolutely perfectly. That is the crunch of the matter though. Not everyone would have the same requirements and priorities that we have.
