Re: Bill Healy

Did Bill have a brother named Austin? That name seems familiar...

(Sorry -couldn't help myself)

Sorry... it was a lame joke, referring to the Austin Healy, a popular sports car of the 50s and 60s era.

Re: Bill Healy

Baileyg: I believe that you must have conversed with Georges' son Randy, as George left this world back in the early 80's. Randy has carried on his fathers' legacy and then some: an accomplished builder and all around prime human.
On a slightly different note, HopCar ( a frequent contributor here ) was so very helpful to me back in the early 70's when I was finishing out a Glander "Tavanna" on Key Largo. He made my trips up to Hopkins Carter (then on the Miami River) to buy items for completing the bare hull "kit" boat an interesting experience. Actually, there were four of us building Glander boats then at the "House of Boats and Goats" who benefitted from HopCars help. Thanks

Re: Bill Healy

Right. Randy Wall. After moving to NC in Aug 1980 I would make two or three trips to Key Largo yearly, Fall Break in Oct, Christmas, and Spring break, usually March. After adjusting to NC, I could not take the heat after May and before Sept 15th or so in Miami or Key Largo. I remember around 1960-62 visiting a shed, open on one side, where Bill had an upside down hull almost ready to turn over. The year could have been earlier. Not later.

Someone tell me if the 1959 Miami Ship photo I posted is Bill Healy.

Boatman1, Thanks for the kind words!

Baileyg, I can’t find the pictures. Where did you post them?
You have made enough posts now that you should be able to post them to this thread.

Re: Bill Healy

It just so happens. I own the 34' Healy ketch Muto Atea. She's docked in the stuart area. May 1st will be going down the ICW to Key Largo. We will anchor in Tarpon Basin. Do some work on her. Get her ready for the Bahamas.
I have list of all her owners and history. Even photos.

Re: Bill Healy

Great, would love to swap Healy stories and see Muto Atea. I will be in Key Largo 7-11 May and can easily swing by Tarpon Basin. Let me know if you will be there then.

Re: Bill Healy

We are getting her ready right now. Jerry and Bonnie on a 37 Irwin told us about Tarpon Basin. Looking foward to anchor there for a while.

Re: Bill Healy

Tarpon Basin is an excellent choice. I have ridden out some nasty cold fronts in Tarpon Basin. There is a community dock for dinghy access to stores, etc.

Re: Bill Healy

Getting boats ready now. Selling the Island Trader 38 on Ebay auction. And will have to do two ICW trips. One for Presto, my 34' sharpie. And one for Motu Atea.

Re: Bill Healy

Just found this picture from the seventies. I believe this boat was a Healy owned by Mort Adams.
