Boat Delivery May 2021

Hello all,
We are purchasing a 50' Jeanneau 509 that we will keep at its current location, South Amboy, NJ, till May of 2021. We are looking for a captain & 1 crew member to sail the boat to Mystic CT around 5/8-5/14 next year. The boat is well equipped with all you would expect. Does anyone have a recommendation of a licensed captain. We have been told it is about an 18 hour trip. Thank you.

I have someone, but he is in SoCal. If you don't get someone local - let me know and I'll send his info

Auspicious Dave is a Forum Member and an exceptional delivery skipper and boat manager based out of the Chesapeake. I think a link to his website is on his profile page.

Fair winds and congrats on your new baby!
Warmly,

Just curious. That sounds like a nice little jaunt. Why not do it yourself?

Re: Boat Delivery May 2021

I've made the trip many times. This one obviously is a trip through NYC and then out to the end of CT. It should be timed carefully or according to both current and wind. It might be doable in 18 hours but I would not bet my life on that. I'm interested and do travel -- but my crew and I live in MD and it should be more cost-effective to get a NJ, NY or CT crew.

This is a relatively easy passage. You need to time the currents through the East River and Hell gate but otherwise nothing special. If you wish to break up the trip you can grab a free mooring for a night in Manhasset Bay just past the Throgs neck Bridge, Anchor at City Island or travel a little further and anchor in Oyster Bay.

Re: Boat Delivery May 2021

I am a retired "Captain", 100GT Near Coastal. I would do it just cover my expenses, train ticket, etc. Figure 2 days, overnight Northport on the hook. Timeing is everything, the 'Gate" at the beging of ebb tide.

Schedule with weather window.

I'd be interested in crewing. I've done the trip several times.. 18 hours is optimistic (7knt average) in my opinion. Unless you just motor the whole way. Personally, I would go overnight around the outside, weather permitting, but I'm not the Cap, so whatever.

Hi - I am a 100 ton licensed captain with multiple delivery experience. I am located on Cape Cod, so this is well within my wheelhouse. Your delivery is likely more than eighteen hours, but still a short trip. This would cost about $500 + expenses.
