Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I wish I had more knowledge about boats because if I did, I might seriously consider this one.

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lg...282356911.html

1984 40' Beneteau custom 1 tonner. Tired and needs a refit. $5550. Seller says it's going to one of the donation places on Friday 3/12/21 if no one buys it by then.

*sigh*

I have the cash. I have the desire. I have the ability to refit it over time. I just don't have a place to put it or the knowledge needed to evaluate it without hiring a surveyor. I also can't sail it from LB to Channel Islands or Ventura by myself because I don't know how (yet) and I don't know anyone who DOES know how and who would be willing to help. That means hiring a delivery captain on top of the surveyor on top of the purchase price. At which point it becomes unfeasible economically.

This is probably one of those deals that you really want but will pass on because another one will come along eventually.

Anyway, hopefully someone in LB or nearby wants it.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Has anybody bought a boat from theses posts?

If anybody is interested in a chance at a great boat (1980 Bristol 35.5), at a cheap price, that has good bones but needs work, and many upgrades, I have personal knowledge of one.

I believe that somebody should be able to pick it up for $25,000 or less.

The owner is sailing it this season, but it needs cleaning, painting, and electronics upgrades, that should motivate the owner to consider a reasonable price. I purchased one of the same model, that was in better shape, because I'm old enough that I wanted a boat I could sail now, and not one that needed a lot of work due to some deferred maintenance.
But I'd love to see this boat get into the hands of a Bristol lover, who would fix her up.
I tried to add some photos I have, but didn't have a URL for them.

But DM me if interested.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I want this boat so freaking bad. The problem is that I'm not ready for it yet. I don't know enough to even evaluate it let alone sail it to it's design.

Anyway...

Farr 33 - $14,750

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lg...287961483.html

There is one thing I did notice about it:

Does that mast look off center, or bent, to you?

And it is the Farr 33 not the Bavaria 33 that is often confused with it. PHRF rating is 102 which makes it fast.

I wish this guy would respond, Depending on the condition of the interior I would buy this ASAP. Haven’t had a response from any of his ads!

No answer to his phone? And one of his ads includes his direct email.

Gotta be a drag if this looks like great opportunity for you. It does look amazing but I'm not ready for a project boat.

To see if the mast has a curve in it, you'll need to be there in person and sight up the mast. If so, it may be just a matter of tuning the rigging. If it has a lean to it, more likely it is just something heavy in the boat on one side. One reason the racing boats are cheaper is that the sails may be old and the interiors very spartan. They may not be as competitive so folks lose interest in putting any more money into them. A sail that has lost a good competitive shape may still be fine for cruising for a few more years and if you don't mind the interior, it might be a fun choice. The other thing is that they are usually laid out with multiple crew in mind, so it may be a reach from the wheel to the sheets if you are singlehanding. Oh wait, it has a tiller. never mind.
