Kind of sounds like a scam.
Well, the metal frame at least appears to be factual: Columbia 40 - Columbia Yachts

To me, it sounds less like a scam than a seller who got in over their head, who may have more "book learning" than experience and doesn't know what to say about the boat.

46’ Tancook Schooner - $9,500 (Kapaa HI)

There isn't a picture included in the ad and I was curious, so I googled it. Here's the stock Wikipedia pic. Beautiful boat project. It would be interesting to see pictures of the work in progress.

From what I know of them they do have that steel frame to support the mast and hull, BUT it needs to be checked for corrosion. I believe it was galvanized, and it may be fine, but I do remember reading of one that had the frame so badly corroded it had to be replaced, and on a boat that old, only a true fan of Morgan designs would probably find that worth it.

Wow, it "just needs rigging and masts etc." Piece of cake. Maybe a project for long holiday weekend, right?

Anyone in Maine area looking for a starter boat? This Bristol Corsair could be a steal. He's asking a thousand. I have been emailing the guy. He is not a sailor and has no idea about boats. It came with a property he acquired, it's blocking some equipment and he needs it gone. No sails, but it was "Shrink Wrapped" until he opened it up last week.

I don't think it's worth the effort to get it up to Champlain for our starter boat, but it doesn't look like it's been sitting too long. Could be a good old boat for someone in the area.

Meh... Any sailor worth his salt should be able to knock it off in an afternoon with a couple tubes of 5200 and a case of Landshark.

Gee, Capt. Who, you have nose for these things. Even with the lengthy list of repairs, this one looks like a lot of boat for $10K. I can't believe this thing has the original sails - 45 YEARS! I would choose something like this over a home build in heartbeat.

That's a sweet little boat. I bet a new suit of used sails from Bacon wouldn't break any budget.

we need deals like this on the left coast. I wonder what is driving the cheap prices in Florida?

I'm trying to figure out what the local marina that does transport would charge to get it in the water. The boat could be sound, and sailing for under a few grand. It'd be an adventure to get it up the Hudson to Champlain from there. Also considering some LI sounds boats. The limited selection of interesting boats on Champlain makes the local stock a bit pricey for what they are. Never been up the Hudson. Why not. It's a salty little boat from way back at the beginning of Fiberglass. Hope some local grabs it and keeps it going.

According to one source, the U.S. state of Florida had the highest number of registered recreational boating vessels in 2019, with almost 936 thousand.
In addition to the number of boats that are based in Florida, lots of sailors use it as a jumping off point to, or a point of return from the Caribbean and when they're done with their boats, that's where they sell them.
