This boat looks to be a great option for my plans to live and cruise the Champlain to North channel for the summers in next few years. Any experience with this maker and engine. Requires new sails and quite old. Is the real price in the less than 30k range?

Pictures can be deceiving. It only takes one open hatch and rain to wreck a boat.

But if you go in person, it looks to me there is a lot of new expensive upgrades to this boat. Two mast and that bow extension means at least 4 sails that can set you back on the cheap at least $4K

Yes for the main sail not to mention all of the others . This rig can easily carry 5 sails plus a spinnaker.
New sails would likely cost 20k used half that

This is a tricky one. It's relatively unique in this part of the world, so there are very few price comparisons.

Pros:
  • Very well maintained, by the photos
  • Decent gear but mostly antiquated (that manual windlass and anchor are probably original)
  • Draft is <5 feet
  • Comfortable river/lake cruiser especially in bad weather - inside steering
  • Huge interior
  • Hull and decks look to be painted - nice job and...
  • "Yay, no teak deck!"

Cons:
  • Listing is inadequate: Engine hours? Age of gear? Electrical upgrade? Opening ports? Berths? Dining area? Seating?
  • No picture or idea of interior cushions (which are expensive if they're dead)
  • Sails could cost $5-10K (unless you make your own)
  • Liveability in North Eastern summer climate is questionable
  • A number of unappealing amateur interior touches
  • It's heavy and presumably not a great sailor (so perhaps sails don't matter?)
  • It's old! Unless everything has been replaced, it's questionable. Including rigging and spars.

It's very hard to predict what they'll get for it.

...in addition, apparently older boats are hard to insure, if that was important to you.

Either way, get a survey if you're serious.

$10K OBO. This one even has a windvane (or at least part of one) although with a non-starting engine and "condition of sails unknown" it might be hard to take it home.

$5K now. I don't expect this boat would have great sailing performance, but could work well as a ive aboard. $5K is about a month's rent on an apartment around here. Interior looks great, love the tiger carved into the door!

Given how expensive living around SF is I am surprised it has not been snatched up as a liveaboard. There must be a catch.

Good luck finding a live aboard slip in SF.

@Katapult Mike What do I have to do to convince you to take a peak at her for me?

A bottle of Aperol will do nicely: https://www.wine.com/product/aperol-...liqueur/530154

Assuming I can work out a time with the seller. PM me.

Here is a 1966 Ericson Alberg 35 for $14,900 that I haven't seen posted yet. It looks in pretty good condition.

It does look in reasonable condition. It looks like a decent old boat.
These are very small (make sure the berths are long enough for you).
Definitely a cottage bunkhouse-type interior!
A 1990 engine with 407 hours? Possible, I suppose. It looks that old, certainly.

That one shows pride of ownership. Anyone looking for that kind of boat in pnw should get a look.

1976 Pearson 365 in Montreal for $25K Canadian ($18.8K US)

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-voilier/vill...eal/1665188270

This seems to be a decent price for a good old boat.
A lot depends, as always, on the state of the engine, sails, and other mechanical systems.

If it's any good, it won't last long.

1977 C&C 38 in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia for $29.5K (about $22K US).

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/cap...-38/1665525694

Another nice cruiser, for a decent price. Again, the state of the engine and sails would be a deciding factor.

A good part of the world to start cruising!
