Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

^^^ Or surf on it's wake , haha . The 42 weighs in around 32,000 . By newhaul's calc . it should have a 32hp engine , so lets round up to 35 . The W42 is the same hull as a W43 ,
the 42 is center cockpit . I once saw a W42 or was it a W43 ? , that was schooner rigged .

I didn't faint, and you're right, I wouldn't want the Bentley 38.

That boat has been for sale for years, of course the price was higher when it was first listed.

Not really, I was on a delivery crew for a 43, going up the Ca. coast into wind/wave we ran the 4-236 at ~1,800rpm.
Easy on the engine, easy on the nerves, easy on the fuel consumption and a ride like a Cadillac.
Standard engine was a 4-108, (too small,) options were the 4-154 and the 4-236.

Not really that much wake.
Schooner rigged? That would have been a kit boat. No factory 42/43s were ever schooner rigged.

The Westsails of all sizes have always been easy boats to bash. Yeah, they do have their faults, but they're forgiving, they'll take care of you when things go sideways.
You can bang them around a bit and not worry about many of the issues that seem to plague a lot of more modern boats.
Me? I do think that the 42/43s should have had keel stepped masts, and the fuel/water tanks on them require massive work to change.

I know I was being a bit sarcastic but seriously mushing into wind and waves north off California is not an easy run in fall/ winter not a ship graveyard for nothing .
Personally I sail west toward Hawaii then north a reverse of vic Maui run to here .

Jeepers, If I did, I didn't mean to give the impression that we made the trip in fall/winter, it was a summer run in the typical weather.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

1979 Sceptre 36 in British Columbia (probably Vancouver Island) for $17.5K Canadian (~$13K USD).
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/red...-36/1680714208

Owner is in Alberta, boat is in B.C.
This sounds like another boat where the moorage is becoming too expensive.

I know nothing about this type of boat. The listing and pictures are not that helpful, but it is big and cheap...

Wow, that seems like a helluva buy. Sceptre are known to be really well made boats that sail well.

Nice looking modern boat , https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/sceptre-36/
Slip rent is getting up there , hopefully you are getting what you pay for .
My marina just under went a major re build , we went from wood docks to concrete .
Plus a pump out spigot close by each slip . My rent a month for a 35 foot slip is 646.
South of us is New Port ,they pay double .

Wow, slip fees like that mean the end of middle class folks with boats.

Yep. The price of a boat is just the entrance fee.

Roberts 25B Pilothouse for $9K Canadian (<$7K US) in Vancouver, BC.
https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van...698859972.html

Ugly/cute. Good for a singlehander or for camping couple, I'd say.
Probably also getting too costly to keep in Vancouver.

Well, you're certainly a candidate for the 2023 CF Award for Extreme Thrift!

I might beat that except we pay for mast down, inside storage in winter.

13hp Volvo MD7A on 16,000 displacement. Very rarely wanted more.
