This boat is certainly noteworthy, and way under $30K. It is a free Cal 40. Like most free boats it will cost you a lot to sort it out. But it has a working Beta diesel and a monitor windvane! I expect the owner is gong to want some assurance that whoever takes it is capable of restoring it and not just tryng to get a free engine and wind vane.

Wow! That's one of those free boats that just might be worth it!

In my marina, but no affiliation. Low entry price for a full keel classic plastic cruiser.

And if I was in the market, I would have already run to check this one out.

This is such an old thread, perhaps we should up the budget? $50K maybe?

Why if you want a vessel that costs up to that then search accordingly. I personally look at vessels under 10k and there are many but I feel 30k is a good break point.

There are lots of boats available for $30K US, I'd say there are more and more every year. Pre-1990 certainly.

The trick is to find something worth buying and/or restoring.

The real trick is keeping the restoration under 30k

Oh, if it's a keeper, that's impossible

$30K plus the rest of your life...if you're lucky!

My big mistake was asking if the guy wanted to sell his boat as he hadn't moved it in 5 years.
$1000 bucks later I was on my way to going broke

I dunno, seems to be a buyers market right now. Lots of interesting boats getting posted under 10K. Maybe we should lower the cap?

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

1989 Bayfield 32C cutter for $39K Canadian (~$29K USD) in Toronto ON.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/cit...32c/1686134680

Good example of this classic small cruiser in very good condition. The ad says it was the last one made and is a freshwater boat.

The price is top of the range for this size/type, but it looks to have been maintained and upgraded very well. It has a bow thruster - these boats don't back up well otherwise.

This is the 32C version of this cutter with the extended bowsprit giving more sail area. I am not sure if it's got the longer mast though.

Less than 4 foot draft.

1985 Jeanneau Attalia 32for $34K Canadian ($25K USD) in Toronto ON.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/cit...-32/1686127066

I don't know much about these boats, but this looks like a good layout. Nice interior. Non-opening ports in main cabin. Amateurish job on the vinyl interior cushions. No visible anchoring system. Mismatched exterior canvas?

It seems to be in OK condition with no exterior teak. Some people like that!
