Nah. Satin 2 gallon, mineral spirits 1 gallon, and a gallon of high gloss every 5 to 7years

Well, that's one way to be sure you get lots of calls anyway. Or maybe it sunk in it's slip.

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I've viewed boats in Washington State, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, The Chesapeake, Oregon, Louisiana and Florida. I'm probably heading back to Florida in a couple of weeks, so multiple times in some states. I could have purchased a boat with all the money I've spent looking... lol

Alberg 35 - $19,900 - Hermosa Beach, California

From the pics, seems like a pretty nice boat.

IKR? At one point I was considering a metal boat and might even still get one if I see the right one. Problem is that they seem to be almost as high maintenance as a wood boat. I saw SuW's post which reinforces some of the thoughts that I've had about them. I've also watched 'Adventures of an Old Seadog' and I've seen the amount of work that he puts into his boat, significantly more than a plastic boat and his deck still looks like c**p.

You just have to find out where all the hidden rust is located and patch all the holes and weak spots. I really dislike it when I see metal boats with square patches just tacked on the surface of the hull. I'd probably want to cut out the entire rust area and fit a plate so that it sits flush with the remainder of the hull. I suppose it's harder to do it that way and that's why you see a lot of square patches. I can do fiberglass work, but welding is beyond me and I'd have to hire that work out.
Once the hull is sound, attach zincs every 3 feet on the hull, maybe 2-3 on the rudder and a few on the prop shaft too.

If you have a steel boat and the hull is fair, it's got a lot of filler added beneath the paint.

My advice is, if you want a metal boat, think of it more like a workboat instead of worrying about esthetics.

Yes, very nice! Looks like it has been cared for and has some nice gear.

I was trying to figure out what is the thing on the companionway hatch - perhaps some kind of nesting dinghy?

Yes a custom built nesting dingy that doubles as a dodger according to the description

Not a bad solution to the problem of what to do with the dinghy, but I wonder if you can see over the top of it from the helm?

Probably another reason for me to never get a steel boat. Stuff like that would drive me nuts. If I looked at a boat and and spotted big square patches all over the bottomsides, My offering price would go down about $10K/patch.

I like it... pretty clever idea.

Aesthetically, I might just replace the 1970's Winnebago interior paneling.

Our boat had laminate on various surfaces.
I found that painting that laminate with Interlux Brightside gave a really good finish. And painting the plywood bulkheads white really brightened up the interior.

It really looks beautiful, but it might tke me a while to get used to walking on my hands and sleeping on the ceiling.
