The ad said "Isuzu diesel, 52 hp, great shape". Of course, it IS the internet.

Bristol 32 for under 10k. Looks to be in good shape with good equipment. Recent engine rebuild (although it's an atomic 4)

If I could sell my powerboat I would give it some serious thought!

That does look to be a possible bargain, imo.

An offer which is accepted without modification is a contract. Enforceable? probably not without a lot of trouble, but unethical for sure. This is why brokers insist on a deposit with an offer. You better have a deadline for acceptance also, other wise the offer still stands ..... How do I know? When selling a boat once, I counteroffered on an offer and the broker forgot to state a deadline date. I sold the boat to someone else but it cost me $500 for a lawyer to straighten things out.

I think I looked at this boat Jan/Feb '16. I don't remember the original asking price, but I think it was closer to $15k. The only thing I wrote in my notes are:
exterior wood needs total refinishing
interior wood, ok some places-refinish others
overall interior in good condition
cosmetic issue with topsides/hull - polish,repaint?
funky smell

I passed on it because it needed a little love and with the price at the time, there wasn't room for that.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

The ad says 829 total hours and 250 after rebuild. I don't know as much about gas engines, but isn't that pretty low for needing a rebuild? Might be a bit of a red flag, either the boat was neglected, in which case all of the systems were likely neglected, or the motor was abused (run without maintenance etc) in which case all the systems were probably similarly abused.

For the price, probably still well worth a look, but that's just something to keep in mind.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

A4s have a bad habit of the valves sticking when not 'pickled' before long term lay up. Requires removing the head and loosening up the valve and possibly a valve job. That could be what they are referring to. There is also the question of what is the definition of a rebuild. For some it's a new coat of paint and for others it's a total tear down with replacement or refurbishment of all wear parts.

And a decent A4 that's used a lot will definitely go well beyond 900 hrs. Raw water cooling is what does em in if they're used. Not used? Valves, guides, the accessory drive dries out, etc...

If it runs and sounds good, I think having an A4 is a great way to get a good boat as a cheaper price. And a new one is pretnear half the cost of a new diesel.

But they are gas, with all the problems that brings. The #1 problem I have with my A4 is it absolutely drinks the gas. Range for me with a full tank is 40-50 nm. So it would be totally awful for long-distance use. (My C-30 would be awful for long distance use too....)

In the distant future, when apes rule the earth, their boats will have atomic 4 engines leftover from our era.

I have owned 2 of these on different sailboats. Keep changing the oil and they will run forever. My only real complaint....they are so very thirsty for gasoline...no range.

Totally agree!

I've owned a (1972)C&C27 and a (1971)Paceship29, both equipped with A4. One gallon (Canadian gallon, not the smaller USG) per hour was an optimistic consumption rate...lots of stops for fuel. I confess neither was well tuned or equipped with the new electronic ignition now available. And both had a habit of cutting out at inconvenient times.

On all the sailboats I've owned with a diesel engine, I would top up the fuel tank before haulout each October, and not need to add fuel until the following October...so no fillups during the sailing season...even with long trips up and down the lake (Lake Ontario).
