Bristol 27 Bowsprit- Factory Made?

So after I bought my Bristol 27 back in 2011, I thought the owner had added the bowsprit.

But it was mentioned to me recently that another boat like mine was seen with the same bowsprit.

The roller is broken off of mine btw

Not sure what you are asking??

Semantics. It's not a bowsprit but an anchor roller platform. The headstay is still attached to the boats stem as its original sloop rig. Imagine it's good way to get clearance for an anchor roller so not surprizing that another owner would come up with a similar idea. Doubt very much it was a factory addition. That's a pretty common after market addition to many different boat designs for cruising.

Pretty boat though. Love the look of the B27.

Re: Bristol 27 Bowsprit- Factory Made?

Thanks for the info.

As far as the Bristol 27, I can't seem to be able to part with it. (I just got back from a 3 hour sail before the storms hit. Winds were up 16 knots or so. Perfect!)

It was to be my monohull trainer after racing beach cats for many years. I wanted to see if I could adjust to the slower speed of monohulls and not racing and I have

(but) Every time I look at another boat I feel like I'm way up high and not as in touch with the water/sea as I do on this Bristol. Plus this boat came loaded with cruising gear. (anchors, chain, and rode, plus autopilot, and lots of charts mainly East Coast and Bahamas)

It just won't point worth a crap but I guess if you aren't in a hurry that isn't a problem. So I need to decide whether to fix it up or get another faster boat that has some room down below and that doesn't heel so far over

I rarely reef......as a weekend warrior/vacation sailor

Fix up simply means new dodger with SS frame and handles, extra outboard, and new rigging plus maybe a spare autopilot...….and possibly a fridge (and another solar panel)

Some on the Bristol27 Site are calling it a Bow Platform. The roller is no longer on mine, but it and the shape of the bow probably help keep the anchor from slamming into the boat when you pull it up

It still appears only boats with a serial number near 300 and above have these platforms though. There were like 350 or so of these boats built
