I am actually going to look at a Vega next week...he is looking for 18,000 Can. Are there particular issues of concern to look for in these boats?
I have had a Bayfield int eh past...the 32...and the 25's are certainly attractive however they don't have the sailing chops that the other boats do.

Ps when do you stand up un a boat other than to cook? All this talk about headroom. You would think people stand up down below while crossing seas.

Bill you might look at the cape dory 25D not many around but might be more manageable to trailer all that distance!!
Also the CD 27 nice boats but underpowered with 1 cylinder yanmars but for coastal sailing should be fine

As an unabashed fan of the Cal 2-27 I would toss that model into the mix for your consideration. We love ours. Sails well, can be had for a decent price allowing for a larger upgrade budget, and has over six feet of headroom. The build quality is great as well.

I looked at the sailboat data for the Cal....it would be a great boat to cruise...the only issue is the beam wrt towing and US highway regulations...my understanding you are stuck with 8' without special permits...
