We bilt and sailed a steel boat, it was not a Roberts, but we sailed her for over 25 yrs and sold her to the folks who now have sailer her for 8 more years, and she still passes Ins surveys with flying colors! all it takes is UP KEEP !! and good prep and paint in the constuction stage !! just our 2 cents

I built a Bruce Roberts 434 modified. She has a new York 50 stern to enable two staterooms aft.
Mine is FRP over airex. She is fast comfortable and has about 30K miles under her keel in the 15 years since I launched her .
Resale on them sucks because people don't understand how riggers they are.
Too big for a single hander so I will be untying her up for sale

Re: Bruce Roberts 434 ?

My Roberts 36, launched in 1984, is now available for sale again from her 2nd owner. I sold her in 2001. As for performance,I frequently outsailed larger cruising boats that i cruised in compnay with from time to time.....as much to do with the boat and some good light weather sails as having some racing experience and beinag able to sail reasonably compently. ...so performance, slow boats etc. is all amatter of many factors.....not to mention your own particular take on what cruising is about.
