Cape Dory 33 Reviews

I've had a wander through the forums and can't find any threads that deal with my inquiry about Cape Dory 33's, so....

Has anyone out there had any first hand experience with a Cape Dory 33? Especially on blue water. I have heard a few have completed circumnavigations.

I don't know of anyone myself that has one, so if there isn't anyone that has taken one out first hand, I'm also happy to read opinions!

fantastic little boat!
i delivered one from hawaii to australia a few years back.
fast,sturdy and well built.
we averaged 5.5 knots over the 4500mile trip,but would happily cruise downwind at 6.5-7.5knots.

not so fast to windward due to her size,but sturdy with a good balast ratio keeping her stiff even in gale conditions.
cutter rigged gives you any number of sail combinations.

a great little boat for a couple or single hander,though on passage would sleep 4 comfortably.
nicely finished,only the electrics were a bit out of date as you would expect in a 25year old boat.
the 30hp universal diesel pushed her along economically at 4-5 knots,though would have beniffited from a bigger prop.

water tankage is 80 gals,though we fitted another 25 in cans under the saloon table.
fuel tankage 30 gals,though we were able to carry another 70 in the lockers,on deck and in the saloon,sufficient for a long equator crossing(1200 miles)

i would happily do a tradewind circumnav in one

Many CD owners try to sell there boats on the Cape Dory Owners Website before going to a broker
Most owners of CD's move up or down in size as there are so many sizes,
Register and you can then post on the website.
You WILL get plenty of questions answered
