I've made a lot of improvements in Solar Bimini/Invertors/Off Grid sustainability and ease of maintenance since buying, that has been worthwhile doing on a steel boat with good bones and no rust issues

Some of these broker photos were taken before I bought in 2004 don't show the changes made

This seems to be the perfect boat in my eyes.
Never seen those before.
Looks like helleman is at the higher end of size quality and price what i find ...

Yes. Also a nice boat. In this special case it looks like salon setting is too low for a good view and the cockpit does not give Supperbe Protektion.

Taswell 49 seems to be a very close game with my budget. Tendency to too expensive. Looks more like a luxury cruiser than an all purpose go anywhere yacht though.

Ok, I have been looking for the same, some that the Admiral likes are... some Brewer 42’s that have a pilothouse, Brewer/Panoceanic 46, the Swedish Langedrag sailboats, the Sirius sailboats, and of course the Cabo Rico sailboats.

What is your budget? And how far away are you willing to go to get it?

Ralph hi

I think you do yourself a disservice by excluding Aluminum as the construction material

They are the work horses of the fishing and ferry fleets and plenty of sound vessels in the configuration that you are looking for

Way less corrosion issues for comparable maintenance and it is just as noticeable as that on a steel boat if it does arise
Personally i would always take an aluminum boat over a steel one - there are lots of AL work and play boast in NZ and many in every day use for 30 plus years

Checkout the Reinke designs. I have a pal who runs charters from Chile to Antartica in one.

The farer the price will be away from 200k usd (asking price) the better it is!
Mid europe would be good. Boats from other Continents will mean dramatic Increase in travel cost for Inspection.

Re: Center Cockpit Pilot House - after 2 years of search still need advice!

Consider a full cockpit enclosure of SS tubing and fabric on a center cockpit boat of your choice. You'll open up a very large range of choice of boat, compared to the narrow limits you have imposed. We have totally enclosed our cockpit with a fabric cover, and it makes the center cockpit become the go-to place to be in any kind of weather.
Some of the references in other posts are not what I would call pilothouse boats. They have enclosed raised salons, but do those salons contain helm stations? For example the Taswell looks like the cockpit is totally exposed except for a minimal dodger.
Where are you sailing? With a true pilothouse configuration, if you ever go to a warm climate then you'll wish you could easily remove or at least fully open any pilothouse windows while underway and sailing. Another plus for fabric covers.

Re: Center Cockpit Pilot House - after 2 years of search still need advice!

Well... of course... all boats that are of interest to us need to have 2 helm stations. Outside and one inside with good visability, low noise and low Vibrations for Prolonged traveling in cold temps and rain.

We have a boat now which we can incapsulate very flexible with a hard dodger and 2 textile Cover parts. We can adjust it easyly. But .. you always have to adjust it and it is never 100% rain or wind proof. Ok for traveling but not cosy at he hook in Bad weather and cold if you just got up in the morning.
Thus we find us quite often down below with Zero view.
I think Center cocpit and Panoramic salon gives you the best compromise of goid sailing and nature joy at the hook.

for 2 years now we are searching for our new yacht. I guess we have travelled more than 10000 miles during this time to view candidate boats in person.

While still not sure if steel is an absolute must (or if heavy plastik is fine) we know we want the following:

center cockpit pilot house (seating same hight as windows! - not the "windws up seating low versions") between 43 to 50 feet build around the 70's-90's.
No side doors! Medium to long keel. heavy build.
I have seen "millions" of pictures and boats online but as those are older boats I assume I do miss some models by only checking whats online.

So I ask for your kind help:
can you point out some models I do not know about yet?

I know:

feltz 3
motiva
nauticat 43

thanks a lot
best regards
ralph

With that budget, and your wish list, I think the best options available to you are ones that you've already looked at: the Motiva 51 and Feltz 47, both in Germany. It's hard to tell if the Feltz is actually a center cockpit. They both look well built and well maintained. I prefer the Motiva layout, but the Feltz is a centerboarder with low draft, which can be very appealing. I think you will have to go up above 300k to find comparable or superior options in Europe.
