Re: Challenger Yachts

I just bought a 1970 Challenger 32 today in Portland, OR.

She's on the hard and needs new bottom paint and some minor fiberglass work. This one was pulled out of the water last summer for a refit and has been covered the entire time. She needs some work but for the most part she's in good shape. The main thing is new flooring. The plywood in the head is gone as they cut it out when the mast was removed.

I'll start a thread here in a few days to record the work I'm doing. I'm hoping to have her back on the Columbia River in a couple of months.

Re: Challenger Yachts

Good to see some activity on this site. I am in the process of reworking a Challenger 41 that I purchased in March. The more info the better, as I am always finding things I have questions about. I am planning to do a Facebook page for the boat rework.

Re: Challenger Yachts

I'm in the process of fixing up a Challenger 32 right now. I've created a Facebook page to keep track of all of the work I do to it. She needs a lot of work but the engine runs and the sails are in good shape.

Please take a look and feel free to send me messages with advice.

Re: Challenger Yachts

Hi, I am buying a1986 Challenger 32 sailboat. In liking what I have read so far that they are a well made boat. I build boats myself and like the build quality. Don't know much about these and find it interesting to learn on hear. I Currently own an Wayferer Islander 32 1963 hull #5. I am so excited to get this Challenger. Funny story, I had a Dodge Challenger car in Hi school, my dad had a Challenger jet boat too. It must be fate! Lol. Thanks for sharing info on here. I just joined Cruiser Forum. I have 6 boats and am a boat nut. 2, 32 ft sailboat's 1, 23.5 ft Cabin Cruiser Bayliner. 1, 21ft speedboat that I built from scratch and used to sell. 1 replica of a 1903 Wineglass Transom 10 ft row and sail boat, that I have the molds for and build. 1, 10ft Achilles raft. Thanks for letting me join and Happy New Years to you all.

That is a center cockpit. Mine is a aft cockpit. And it STILL doesn't give the mizzen sail info. 😭

Re: Challenger Yachts

New owner of a solid 35’ Challenger undergoing a massive refit. If anyone knows the reasons this boat doesn’t have a single bulkhead’ feel free to educate me. Even the knee for the cap shroud was only tabbed-in on one side of the plywood for the length of about 18” along the hull. We’re gutting the entire thing and rebuilding the inside. Any comments, lessons learned, or advice is always welcomed. :-) Have a great day.
