pirate Chance 37 Wauquiez

Hi Folks... a friends asked for advice about this boat... I know little about these so would be grateful for any feedback regarding possible problems/weaknesses etc... looked online but only found generalisations... real life experience of them is preferable... hope someone out there knows these boats...
Then I can pretend I'm a clever buga when I e-mail the results...

Wauquiez is/was an excellent builder. Wouldn't worry about the construction. Sailed a bit on the 37's little brother the Allied Chance 30. It didn't have any significant nasty points. Was not a fast boat on a reach because of the small main dictated by the IOR rule but went to weather very well. One potential problem with the chance 30 was the possibility of twisting the keel. One went aground and then pivoted on the keel putting a permanent twist in it. Did really well to weather on one tack but not so hot on the other. Don't know how significant a problem this was but happened to at least one boat.

Jon Eisberg over on the CSBB board has a Chance, believe it's the 37 but not absolutely sure. He rotates it from the NE to the Carribean most every year. Believe he sails single handed. He was late getting underway this year and is iced in on his mooring and having the wonderful experience of the NE in winter. Might see if you can scout him up and get an opinion. He's a delivery skipper so has a lot of experience in making a comparison. Sweet... I'm raising a glass to you this evening...

They look on the outside a bit like a Centurion and the designs seem to be similar age but the underbodies are completely different. Does not look like a boat for extended cruising.

For other uses, Wauquiez were a good builder and still are in the business. Tells a story.
