Chandeleur Islands and Breton Sound

All,

Does anyone have experience crossing Breton Sound and going to the Chandeleur Island?

I will bringing a boat back from Tampa to Houston in June and would like to bypass NOLA and all the locks by going direct from Gulfport Ms to Venice LA via Breton Sound.....and stopping at the Chandeleurs for some serious redfishing...

I have never been in that part of the Gulf and am looking for someone who has been thru that area.

thanks
Dennis

Re: Chandeleur Islands and Breton Sound

West of Chandeleur and Breton Sound are pretty close to what's charted on Garmin Blue Charts. The islands are all broken up now after being battered by hurricanes. Realize there is not much cover in west winds down there, choose settled weather. Ostrica lock is probably a more reliable pass into the river, (river is high now, watch for floating debris) I have not been thru Baptist Colette in a long while and back then there were depth issues. Have fun.
