A lot more complicated.. a lot more blue water than the jen 37.

I hate salons on the starboard side. But it's cheap and certainly blue water with an aft cabin. The interior is lacking and it's a hell of a lot more work. Lots of sails on this bad boy.

One of the MAIN things I really love about

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/197...a#.W5I0T5NKhsM

Is the step down on the stern. Not many boats in my budget ever have that, which are capable of blue water cruising. Could this boat be a cruiser? It's water storage is lacking and it's a sloop, but I keep coming back to it. The beam, the almost aft cabin (I could make it work ok..), the step down stern, the simplicity, the near sail ready. Lets be honest no boat is ready turn key to sail, but if the ad and comments are true it doesn't look far from it. I need help...

From photos, the jenneau is still the winner.

What does “I hate salons on the starboard side” mean?

The jenneau wasn’t built in Guatemala, so it has “blue water” cruised already.

Re: Check out my custom boat

If you can get ahold of an Acapulco 40 you will have a great blue water boat. I have owned one for 30 years now that is 46 years old. They are a west coast boat built in Costa Mesa Ca in the 70s. Might have to travel to find one.

Good luck

Re: Check out my custom boat

waoo ! the owner of the jeanneau gin fizz has done tons of work to transform it into a really efficient travelling machine! it's obvious ! i'd be curious to know how many hours of work has been put into that gin fizz !
the built quality is not like the fast passage 39 but if you want to travel, this particular boat obviously belong to someone who knows about fixing and upgrading with ocean sailing in his mind !

Re: Check out my custom boat

The other boat thats been contending is the KP 44. There's a few that need fixing up and are almost in my budget. The aft cabin is something I'm really looking for.

Can't get ahold of this guy in FL though

Gin Fizz was loaned out to some folks who managed to put her up on a reef a couple of weeks ago. Last I heard Ginn Fizz is no more.

40k, but trying to shoot under that because all boats need work before ready to sail. Bummer to hear about Ginn Fizz, the ad looks pretty up to date. You're sure?

A gin fizz named “guppy” was put on a reef.

Gin fizz is a model name

Ah, now I see that. Sorry for the confusion. I heard it called “Ginn Fizz” so many times I took that to be the name.

Anyway, you may want to look up Ms Decker and her Ginn Fizz named “Guppy.”

The Hughes model is an 80/20 which was meant to suggest it was a motorsailer that could still sail OK - OK is in the mind of the beholder of course. The boats you are suggesting seem very different in concept and perhaps execution. Perhaps this comes from starting with your budget and then seeing what costs $x. I think it would make more sense to start with what the purpose of the boat will be and then see what you find in your budget that checks your boxes. Of the ones you mention I like the Jeanneau but there are lots of boats to consider.

I’m looking for what everyone is looking for in the budget of 40k.. everyone will say the same thing that it’s not possible this and that. Boats are tough and everyone’s budget is too small but we all make it happen some how. So I don’t need to be reminded in the future of this post thank you all. I will make it happen one way or another because boating is a way of life for some of us.

My recs are:

Center cock pit, aft berth or something as comfortable (don’t like v births), right around 40 ft nothing smaller than 37, blue water capable as I want to cross the pacific and Atlantic (I’ll go through the canal, not around). Sloop or cutter is fine, I like simplicity.
40k budget.

The gin fiz doesn’t have a traditional aft cabin but you can sleep in that aft berth and lay down. I can also alter it somehow. Handy with glass and modifications. I love the stern step down it has. It’s very beamy too, which everyone loves.

Re: Check out my custom boat

I have no clue about this boat, does anyone know anything about its blue waterness?

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/198...a#.W58IB5NKhsM

BUT.. who doesnt love an amel euro 41? and within my budget.

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/197...g#.W58PypNKhsM

Opinions on this amel? New engine and trans are due, no clue if either water or fuel tanks are in working shape.

What about the rigging, how long until it needs to be replaced - standing and running?
