Go to the in-water Martime Museum there and see all the classic boats - also you and your little guy/gal can be a "Apprentice Boatwright for a Day" where the Head Boatwright will let you (and teach you how to) actually work on some of their wooden boat projects.

They also used to have a deal that if you join the Museum, you can tie up your boat at their docks. Don't know if they still have it.
Fair winds!

Tangier is definitely worth going to, the beautiful marsh grasses, long beach on the Western shore, great sunsets, the human experience in such an isolated society but if you have a deep draft, be extra careful to stay in the channel......any deviation and you will find two feet of water pretty quickly! The West entrance seems to run deeper than the eastern entrance.

Re: Chesapeake bay cruising advice

when you make it to hampton roads on the northern bank by fort monroe there is a great anchorage by the bridge. It has a dinghy dock just under the little bridge that goes over to fort monroe on mill creek i believe. Free place to drop off your trash which is real plus. Also, if you make it as far north on the chesapeake as baltimore there is an anchorage right beside anchorage marina with a free dinghy dock and a west marine a block away as well as a 24 hour safeway grocery store across the street. Super safe, great part of town. It's not the sketchy areas people think of when they think of some parts of baltimore. Its really nice all around the inner harbor.

Re: Chesapeake bay cruising advice

Ok,
You all were right. We’re just finishing 2 months of cruising on the Chesapeake and it was amazing! We could have spent another 2 months and still not even made a dent in places to see. So far our favorite spots to anchor were little bay (we were the only boat anchored off the beach) and Onancock (great little town)!

We’re headed back to Colorado for the summer to work, but we will be back in the fall to continue poking around the bay.

BTW- we found Regent Point Marina in Topping, VA to be a nice spot to base out of. Quiet spot with clean facilities and a playground for the kiddo.

Glad you liked Little Bay. It’s at the end of my street. Hopefully you explored AntiPoison creek and the little sand island. Lots of fun to had [emoji16]
