Is there something special about these turnbuckles that requires you to source specific leads?

Yes, they are shorter than normal 1/2” thread for 3/8” shrouds. I’ll try to post a photo thanks

3/8” shrouds should have a 5/8” turnbuckle. Are you rerigging?

The threads are 5/8” and custom ‘Choy Lee’ fabrications

That tells me everything associated with this is really old as well.

Just replace with new turnbuckles and re-rig the shrouds.

Re: Choy Lee 40’ turnbuckles

Your only alternative is to have them custom made at a machine shop. Most large rigging shops should have the machining needed to fabricate simple turnbuckles to specialized dimensions.

Certainly possible, but it might be a bit pricey... or more than a bit.

I am unclear why you would need to change turnbuckles and NOT change the wires? Or maybe this is just part of a re-rig?

Re: Choy Lee 40’ turnbuckles

This is from a for-sale post of a Midshipman 40, is it that for which you are searching? What it the length from the chainplate hole center to the wire terminal hole center? That is what you would need to define your search. You may, for instance, be able to find a turnbuckle with integrated toggle so you don't need the separate toggle. You may even be able to do away with toggle since the top end is forked. If you make sure the lower fork is athwartship (the chainplates require that) and you adjust and lock the turnbuckle so the upper fork is fore-and-aft then you get both degrees of freedom that you get from the toggle and fork at the bottom (does require no user error in the setup).

Re: Choy Lee 40’ turnbuckles

You have Norseman fittings on the wire rope. If you buy some replacement cones you can shorten the shrouds and use more standard turnbuckles.
My Cheoy Lee Pedrick 47 has the same ends on the standing rigging, when I installed a new roller furling, which required shortening the forestay.
It takes about 30 minutes per piece, the first will take a little longer, but the others will go quicker.
All.my standing rigging has the Noresman ends. For an emergency backup I have a a longer piece of wire rope that has a swaged end and a blank end, if I have to replace a shroud at sea I can cut it to the correct length and use a Stay Lock end.
I can't get Norseman fittings any more, I can get replacement cones though. If I can't get the Noresman end off to reuse it I'll use the Stay Lock end, which is almost identical.
Just an alternative.
