Re: closed on the new boat today!!

Very nice boats, congratulations. Knew a guy that was captain on one of these years ago and it was one of his favorite boats.

One suggestion and I really hate to post anything less than positive, however if you plan on major ocean crossings, high latitude or other higher risk sailing you might want to make some storm covers for the large windows in the main salon. They are a slight weak point in the design. Many years ago a BB Challenger named Trashman was lost in a serious storm when knocked down and the windows smashed.

Congrats, beautiful boat, i always wanted to own a Alden SCHOONER, as i am related to the Aldens thru the Pilgrims [read the forward in his design book], but i'm 80, so it's not going to happen.

That is a very good looking boat! Don't forget to update your profile. And I'll keep an eye on my inbox for an invitation to go sailing on that beauty!

Re: closed on the new boat today!!

You will be a frozenhawaiian no longer once you move aboard this beauty. Nice looking boat and should be a very comfortable live-aboard home. I heard these boats sail nicely and certainly have plenty of room and even an real engine room.

I used to live in Boothbay in the 70's and often visited the Hodgdon Brothers shipyard and see these being built - very well maid by Maine Craftsman.

CONTRATULATIONS AND ENJOY - GREAT SCORE!!!

WHERE WILL YOU BE BASED, Maine or the Caribbean? Is this the one that was in St. Thomas, Nicte Ha? Are you planning long distance voyaging or coast live aboard?

Did you move up from a 38' Hinckley sloop - I have had a le Comte NE 38 for 20 years and have been looking to move up to a larger sailboat in the 49' range for a while now and hope to make it happen in the next couple of years so I really understand your sense of achievement. HOORAH AND WISH YOU ALL THE BEST!

I remember hearing about that case, the couple I bought the boat from had some very beefy lexan storm covers made for the pilot house windows.

thanks very much
they do have a sizeable engine room. more than enough room for a genset, watermaker and a hot water heater. the boat will be based in england for the summers an the caribbean in the winters, she'll be a working boat running public and private charters in both locations, and yes this is the NICTE HA from st. thomas. I wouldn't say I'm moving up, the hinckley is staying as she alos is a working day charterboat here in portland in the summers. they also are very different boats and the quality and fit of finish of the hinckley really is amazing. even in the sad state I found that boat in several years ago before the refit the quality was plain to see.
