Columbia 9.6 Opinions, Offshore?

Hi All,

It seems to be the same question that gets asked quite a bit on this forum, which I take to be a testament to the collective knowledge found here...

Anyway, there is a reasonably well cared for Columbia 9.6 for sale nearby and at a good price. My plans are to one day do some offshore passage making so the question is This: does the 9.6 have what it takes to be an offshore boat? This question assumes that the boat is properly setup and outfitted.

This is really a question that is dependent on each specific boat. I am very partial to Columbia's but there are some real stinkers out there for sale and there are some excellent boats.

We have an 8.3 that is capable offshore, then again it is very well maintained....

Make sure that you get a very good survey done and spend the time and money to address the issues that the survey reveals.

Not sure how old this thread is but I have a very nice Columbia 9.6m with a new Westerbeke, new sails and new running rigging for sale in Clearwater, Florida
