CONSIDERING A 1969 Cal-2 30

Aloha,
Looking to buy my first boat to be sailed locally out of Honolulu and the rest of the Islands.
I welcome any thoughts, comments and suggestions regarding the Cal-2 30. Any particular defects/problems I should look for? According to the owner, the boat is in excellent condition. Sails, standing and running rigging, chainplates, etc replaced last year. Hull was restored and entire boat painted inside and out in '15 with new bottom paint again in '17.

first things first, get a survey. ask the owner for the invoices to prove that the standing rigging and chain plates are in fact new and that the work was done by someone qualified. the 6 gal water tank would give me pause, even for day sailing 6 gallons is hardly enough. is this the cal 2-30 thats been sitting at la mariana for the past few years? as a boat the cal 2-30 is pretty solid, early days of fiberglass when things were overbuilt. when the boat is out of the water make sure the rudder bearings are in good order. beating upwind from oahu up the molokai slot can be nasty, I've gotten my ass kicked harder in the waters between the hawaiin islands than any other coastal sailing.

Thanks for the reply. I have only spoken to the owner on the phone, as the boat has been in Kona the last 4 years. Yes, I will have a survey done if everything looks good when I go to see it. Yep, a bigger water tank is in Order.
