Coppercoat

Does anyone have experience with applying Coppercoat on a sail drive equipped monohull?

Re: Coppercoat

Yikes!!!!!
Never put copper on aluminum unless you are making a battery.
It will literally dissolve the aluminum.

Re: Coppercoat

Thanks Caradow. The paint is not applied to the sail drive, only the fiberglass hull. The manufacturer claims that hard paint containing copper does not negatively effect the aluminum saildrive. I'd like to believe it but I don't want to be a guinea pig.

Coppercoat is not a "paint," hard or otherwise. When discussing what effect it might have on an aluminum saildrive leg, let's keep the nomenclature straight, shall we?

Pet peeve of mine. Sorry

That said, if the coating is not in physical contract with the saildrive leg, it will not harm it.

Re: Coppercoat

Always leave a gap between the hull coppercoat and the saildrive.
