Crazy internal anchor

So I spent the weekend anchored up next to this beast of a sailboat, Esense. Didn't take a single pic, so here are some stock images.... 25 million buck boat, 43 meters, so sleek it looks like it was carved from a solid piece of graphite. Gorgeous in every way, tho not my style. I noticed something odd....spot it? Check the bow...nuthin! Googled her and the internet told me she has an internal anchor. Sleek af, right? But then I got to thinking... Where we were parked about 75 percent of the time I end up pulling up an old net, and one of my partners has to hang over the bow with a knife to cut it loose.

Let alone a crossed anchor or bringing up actual junk (which has happened to me around here as well, solved with a trip hook and some serious effort over the bow).

How would Esense handle that? My only guess is send out a diver, but dragging along in wind with an anchor flopping around underwater possibly attached to another drifting boat seems like a bit of a do.... thoughts?

Re: Crazy internal anchor

I just saw a boat with that setup for the first time a few days ago at the shipyard. There's a cutout in the hull that the anchor fits into so the fluke is flush with the hull on one side of the center, and the roll bar goes into a hollow on the other side.
To me it seems just another thing asking for trouble, just like the OP noticed, as well as having the anchor always wet (can you put bottom paint on galvi steel?), and inaccessible unless by diver, haulout, or serious shenanigan.
But inconvenience for the sake of looks is what megayachts excel at: ever seen those retractable hydraulic bow rollers that fold away out of sight lest anyone think your shiny yacht had ground tackle somewhere? The ones I've seen are a recipe for perpetual trouble, and take a good bit of time to deploy.
To me it's just another silly, impractical affectation of the megayachts--but then, megayachts aren't meant to be practical.

Yes, such details will never cause any inconvenience for the owner, only their well-paid crew.

The owner probably doesn't even oversee the writing of the checks in person.

Re: Crazy internal anchor

Never seen one in person put a few years ago I was flipping thru a spec for the Palmer Johnson Sport yacht series ( power yachts) and they had a similar setup. They had a separate room in the bow with a couple windlass that feed thru the bottom of the hull and access panel to take care of the anchor just above the water line. One of the designs even had a ladder down into the anchor compartment for cleaning. Hopefully these links to pics will work.

Heck, there are outboards "in the hull" in wells. There are ships with moon pools. So, they've got an internal compartment for the anchor. One less mess on the bow, but more internal volume consumed.

It wouldn't keep me up at night.

For what it costs you would think they could have given the helmsman a seat?

as well as the additional windage caused by the helms on deck.
You would think that a more "streamlined" steering position could be devised.
Ah well-perhaps in the Mark II model / Len

Supine under an air-conditioned perspex bubble with a heads-up display.
