Day Sails from Norfolk

Hello,
I'm laying over in Norfolk for a little while awaiting crew and good weather and was wondering if anyone can recommend some day sails --- either to nice anchorages or to some away-from-the-city restos with docking? Or, any other suggestions to enjoy the area w/o a car.

Thanks!

Re: Day sails from Norfolk

There's a lot of options. Lots to do at the Norfolk and Portsmouth waterfronts, plus sails to Cape Charles, or the historic ports of Jamestown or Yorktown, or the quiet anchorages in Mobjack Bay. Enjoy!

Re: Day Sails from Norfolk

As noted there are many choices. Shore options include free moorage at the Portsmouth High Street or North Landings with some nice restaurants within an easy walk or take the ferry over to Norfolk for even more options. A day sail from Norfolk to Hampton (town docks are reasonable) is also not bad. Cape Charles is an overnight trip (19 miles from the entrance to Hampton Roads so depending on where you are starting from could be a longer trip) and offers nice floating docks and an easy walk to town; Yorktown is also an overnight trip with the town marina adjacent to a couple of restaurants (careful of the current tying up there). Hospital Point off the Portsmouth Naval Hospital (and adjacent to Tidewater Yacht Marina) is a secure anchorage with an easy dinghy ride to the marina. Just a few ideas!
