Dog Leg

My staysail is a dog-leg. I'm trying to find out what distinguishes a dog-leg staysail from other staysails but I can find nothing on the Internet except thousands of pages of articles about medical problems dogs have with their legs. If anyone could straighten me out, I'd appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Re: Dog Leg

I've never heard the term, neither has google

No results found for "dog-leg staysail".
No results found for "dogleg staysail".

No idea what it means!

Where did you hear it?
In what way does your staysail differ from an "ordinary" staysail?

Re: Dog Leg

Apparently it's an obscure nickname for a clubfoot that is not really used anymore.

Oooh. Okaay. The reason for the name "clubfoot" is that if you're on the foredeck, and inattentive, that's what happens to your ankle when the boat tacks. Whack! the club comes across and next thing you know, your ankle is full of metal and the orthopedic surgeon is richer.

Re: Dog Leg

I have two thoughts, one is the "jib-boom" may also be called a "dog-leg" but actually my first thought was a boom mounted directly to the stay. above the turnbuckle and force on it pushed the stay forward and it then had a bend at the toggle giving it a slight dog-leg.
