How not to tow your sailboat!!
Check this genius out. Did he really think he was going to make it to the water without anyone noticing.

Most farmers take better care when distances are long or on fast roads.

From the barn to a field a couple miles away, going 10mph is a different story.

Re: Don't try this at home kids

In my youth I always saw this big sailboat being built for decades in a backyard. When I was in my 30's it was finished and was trailered from the San Fernando Valley half way through the Sepulveda Pass where the trailer stayed in one piece and the boat fell to pieces on the freeway. And the picture of the guy hauling wood reminded of a time my partner bid a little remodel job and when we showed up together to do some demo he told me he had thrown in for free removing bougainvillea from 80 feet or so of fence. I told him he was crazy, especially so because we had to take it all out through the house to the dumptruck. We were bleeding from every exposed part of our bodies and some unexposed spots. When the dumptruck was full we could not possibly cram it all down nice and tidy and drove 10 miles to the dump looking like a Rose Parade float.

it doesn't look all that bad to me, depends a lot on distance and speed.

I one towed a house boat on a shop built trailer made of I beams short stretch of highway with no brakes. I'm guessing I had around 17,000 lbs behind the mid 80's F350.

Re: Don't try this at home kids

Well, the home made third axle and no brakes might have had something to do with it. Most places with a government have regulations about getting trailers built and inspected according to regulations and "home made third axle" would pretty much cross the line.

The use of pallets for cribbing, and duct tape for tie-down straps, doesn't seem like it really had anything to do with the real problem. Just made for a sexy Nooze clip.

Re: Don't try this at home kids

It apparently didnt fail .
Ive seen worse.
1500$ seems quite steep, did he slap the officer ?
I once towed a jeep wagoneer on a tandem axle trailer. Tow vehicle was a 72 suburban. I had the back seat removed to patch some rust under it. Cylons stopped us (three guys in front seat eating potato chips)and rattled off a litany of offences. One cylon says im writing you up for improper registration, because rear seat removed made it not a car. I protested, and asked if the pigeon on the dogs head in the back seat was a problem ?to which he said ok would you like to drive downtown to scale it up ? Or writeyou up for no fenders or no licence on trailer ? Fenders were in the jeep, it wouldn't fit with fenders on. I took the slip for registration, then got out of that county pronto. Good thing the case of beer was in front of the radiator in the suburban. I called my state patrol friend and got the whole thing dismissed.
He said the chief he talked to remarked it was shift change time and the youngster became a bit overzealous.

Don't try this at home kids

I had a 500 gl tank on a homemade trailer I made years ago when I was a welder.
I used to drive from Albany Ga to Bainbridge Ga., cause Avgas was over $1 a gl cheaper in Bainbridge.
So I was pulling 500 gl of Avgas on a homemade trailer with no brakes, but It did have lights behind my 1 ton truck every other month or so for a few months.
Just be careful and your OK.

True story and this was in California, a farmer had his license revoked for drunk driving, but he needed to drive the truck to transport Dynamite to a field he was clearing, his livelihood depended on it, so he was given a restricted license that said he could drive, but only if he was transporting Dynamite.

Farmers get out of a lot of rules, like you can’t in Georgia transport fuel in quantities exceeding 55 gls, unless your a farmer, then you can haul all you want.
