Finally my own boat: it is a Bavaria 41 Cruiser

There you go, 5 years too late, 5 years too early, I bought my boat: it's a Bavaria 41 Cruiser

It will mainly be around Hyères, France, until March 2024, then would leave on a trip to the Adriatic via Corsica, Sardinia, maybe Sicily and if I have time before then, the Balearics. So many projects!

5 years too late, because I could have started at the time instead of timidly renting during season. 5 years too early, because all the stars are not yet aligned, in particular the year-round berth, waiting for 18 years in Hyères.

... so it will be the Adriatic, after Hyères and surrounding areas as a passenger until next spring, time to familiarize myself, to do all the little things that deserve attention and improvements.

For the choice of boat. On the one hand, it’s an opportunity. It's not that easy to buy a boat, and when you find one within a reasonable radius, it makes many things easier. Then the size, for traveling. 11m/35ft would have been enough. Among the other criteria that this model ticks: good interior light, view of the outside from the saloon: large chart table for occasional teleworking, large cockpit for outdoor living, double steering wheel and large bathing platform , important for a fish that loves to swim in all seasons; Selden rigging with a solid furling mast, quite heavy keel for a cruiser and not too potbellied. Large D2-55F engine, rather oversized. The equipment is very standard, a few extras here and there without many frills.

Quite a bit of time learning tips for repairing this and that, to avoid spending splurges; a well filled schedule put in place before going to sea. Finally today my registration certificate arrived... so a few days , then departure.

Greetings to everyone, dear sailor friends of all sorts !

Cheers Franck

The huge cockpit and large swim transom are two of the things that we love about our Bavaria ... enjoy the boat !

Thank You, for me it was one of the boats that ticked all the boxes, including those you mentioned. We had dinner at 8 the other day. Works, although a bit tight. It also has a big office table to do the occasional home working.
