I'm looking to get my first boat and am thinking about one of these:

What are your thoughts on this for a beginner?

Which one in particular? there are a lot of boats advertised on that page.

You might also tell us what you plan to do with it?

a. Sail off into the sunset with cocktails each night in the South Pacific.

b. Live on board if so where?

c. Gentle day sailing around a bay or muddy UK estuary with the occasional trip to France next year, if we are still welcome

Apart from your intentions for the use of the boat, how much of a "beginner" are you? Any experience or just jumping in? Take any instructional courses? Sail on a buddies boat? If you are truly a newbie, I would recommend something inexpensive with simple systems and a sloop rig for ease of learning. You'll discover the joys and yes, frustrations of sailing without spending too much. If you love the life and want to move up, sell her and find another boat but this time, you'll have a more experienced eye and can draw from your personal needs/wants. If you decide that sailing isn't all that it's cracked up to be, you haven't spent too much and move on......
