Re: Flying spinnaker

I enjoyed the spinnaker at winds anywhere from 8 knots to 21 knots.

In the photo with the black spinnaker, I had just crossed the finish line and came back down on two hulls.

Winds were 18-22 knots all day. They will call the race when winds are 21 knots for 5 minutes, but that never happened.

Upwind photo shows the waves the wind generated in that protected bay. Spinnaker jammed in the sock getting it down so I just sailed that leg with some of it still out a bit.

When the wind is heavy like that and you are sailing at 15-20 knots, you have to watch for gusts coming from behind and slightly to the side so you can head down a bit just before they hit otherwise you will pitchpole.

With black and white spinnaker, winds were 8-11 knots for the 4 races we did that day in more protected waters.

I couldn't quite steal the wind from the 1st place boat on this race so had to settle for second.

Re: Flying spinnaker

I always thought “man I don’t want to mess with that giant thing”

Flying the spinnaker was awesome and it was a lot less intimidating to deploy than I anticipated. Had to take it down in a hurry as a small storm popped up right on top of us… thee we sock was slick though. We had it socked and on deck in 60 seconds.

Re: Flying spinnaker

Now that we’re back from the trip and I’m at work day dreaming about sailing…

How do people get custom graphics on their spinnakers?

I am thinking I need to pick up a symmetrical for running and would like to get some cool artwork on it.
