GIBSEA 402 - 1988

Does anyone have an insight into this type of monohull yacht? I'm viewing one in 3 weeks time and would appreciate any pros and cons, especially regarding:

1. Offshore sailing

2. Single handing

3. Sailing windward

4. Reliability

Constructive comments appreciated.

I’m not a fan of gibsea, lightly constructed , check for structural issues if subjected to hard use.

The original Gibsea's had a decent reputation however after being taken over by Dufour for some reason things changed.. production methods or what I know not.
1988 puts it pre takeover.

Gib'Seas have always featured simply fitted but very practical interiors, on well built hulls. By the mid 1990s the company was struggling to compete as an independent builder with the larger and more highly automated productions of Beneteau, and Gibert Marine were taken over by Dufour, who continued to produce yachts under the Gib'Sea name.

Re: GIBSEA 402 - 1988

A Gibsea from 1988 will be a Gilbert Marine built boat. We had a 1986 Gibsea 96.
It was a solid well built boat.
After Dufour took them over they became, IMHO, lightly constructed boats for the charter market.
We chartered a Dufour Gibsea 33 from Port Mahon in Menorca and were very dissapointed.
Little comparison in quality to our Gilbert Marine 96, which was also a 33 footer.
