Glow plug for Universal M-35

I have a Universal M35 Spec HBW serial # 838857-D211 in my 1968 Swan. I need some new glow plugs. The Universal dealer wants $73 each. I see the Kabota glow plugs are $10 to $14 each. Can somebody give me the cross reference Kabota engine or some way to get the kabota part #

Thanks

Re: Glow plug for Universal M-35

Universal to Kubota engine cross references:

Universal M-25 is a Kubota Block D-850
Universal M-25XP is Block D-950
Universal M-30 is a Block D-1101&D1102
Universal M4-30 is a Block Y-850
Universal M-35 is a Block V-1200

This should help in finding parts at your local Kubota Dealer.

“... The best way to check glow plugs is to yank 'em out and hook 'em to a battery (ground on the body, positive on the connection end.) If they glow red, they're OK. (Watch that you don't burn yourself!) Another problem with glow plugs is found in the connection wires between the plugs. These connections tend to corrode over time (just like battery cables). Clean them with some sandpaper before reinstalling to the glow plugs. If you don't want to test your glow plugs before replacing them, can I have your old ones? Glow plugs rarely go bad folks ...”

Re: Glow plug for Universal M-35

Thanks for the info:

The information you suggest on glow plugs is similar to my experience on tractors. I have a tractor I have had for over 30 years and never replaced the glow plugs.

I'm a bit new to boating so thought it might be different.

I tested the 4 glow plugs of this engine earlier as you suggested. None warmed up. I used the jumper clamps that came with one of my inverters. I screwed the positive end to the top of the plug using the thumb screw and washer that had been cleaned and brushed. I used a small vice grips to hold the other end onto the body of the plug.

When I found your reply I just got done doing it again I also hooked up the leads to the inverter just to make sure they were good and the inverter worked just fine with them hooked to the same battery attachment points.

Any suggestions appreciated. At this point it seems my glow plugs are bad. I just got the boat a few months ago and it starts poorly so i have been trying to figure out why.

Thanks
