Gulfstar 44 Cutter Ketch

My wife and I have just purchased fa Gulfstar 44 Cutter Ketch. We are having a hard time finding out any information about this particular boat. Does anyone on this forum have a boat like this? Would appreciate any info. Thanks.

The Gulfstar Owners Club is a pretty quiet place...

If you have any questions about the boat that are specific to Gulfstar intalled equipment, I could help out. I have a Hirsh built at Gulfstar.

PS: I couldn't find any info on my boat either. There was no documentation. In fact, I can't even find anything on Hirsh himself. I have tried. What I do know is that I'm very happy with the boat. It has a few quirks, as most do, but once you get a handle on them, Gulfstars are pretty nice.

I am looking for any info out there on the gulfstar 43, center cockpit, motorsailor built in 1973. I think that there are 10 of these hulls. Where is the HIN located? we just purchased her and would like any into.

The HIN on a Gulfstar is usually on the starboard side of the transom, outside the boat, tucked way up high.

Hmmm.... I haven't seen it anywhere except on the transom on my Gulfstar. Sometimes people alter or grind them out on stolen boats...

I don't think that they put HIN's on the transom until somewhere around 1976. The boat in question here is a 1973.

Guess that would explain it. WHEW! I'm just a youngster. I was 2 yrs old back when they started using HINs, so I was unaware.

1973 was the first year for the mandated HIN, hull identification number, and had to appear on the upper starboard transom molded into the hull. I believe also HIN numbers were also required inside the hull.

I have not heard of a GS 43 built in early seventies. Could you post pictures?

YES, YOU'RE RIGHT, THERE IS A NUMBER IN THE ENGINE ROOM, BUT IT WE DIDN'T THINK IT FOLLOWED THE NORMAL GULF STAR HIN PATTERN.

Re: Gulfstar 44 Cutter Ketch

I think the reference is to the Gulfstar Sailmaster series - More of a center cockpit Motorsailor with a raised saloon and a huge amount of space.
