Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Well, since you've discovered the facts in public domain so to speak, yes it was Brent57 who was the circumnavigator. He was kind enough to share those bits of advice. I'm not sure of the boat's name but I suspect you are right about that as well.

My boat is is the raised cabin version, hull no. 63, homeported in Sequim WA. Soon to be sailing in the San Juan islands.

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Hello Haida owners.

I have a 1969 Haida 26 with a doghouse. I've been rebuiding it slowly, new standing rigging, furler, wiring, etc. I've replaced two of the headsails and I'm about to do the main.

I was wondering if anyone had a picture or a copy of the sail insignia? I think it's an "H" in the shape of a totem pole.

Thanks,
C.

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

I am getting ready to put beach legs mounts on my Haida 26. She is still on the hard, so I cannot test her tendency to go down in the bow, when sitting on her keel. My current intention is to put the legs forward of the lower forward point of the keel and a bit aft of the mast.

So, that is my question: Does the Haida 26 have any tendency to go down in the bow when sitting on a tide grid or on the hard?

I am hoping that the answer(s) will tend towards 'slightly' or 'a bit'. This would mean that I could put her up onto a gravel beach and adjust the legs so she is fairly level.

Thanks in advance.
Stephen

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Just keeping the forum alive. We sailed "Win A Wil " the other day and plan to sail back to the San Juan islands in April. I need new sails, add a transducer, etc but she is a stable, rugged little pocket cruiser.

Btw what do you think of "Haida Way" for a new name?

Let's keep these great little boats alive and salty.

Finally found a clear photo of the Haida 26 sail insignia. Contacted the poster. He said the photo was from his parents who purchased the boat new Seattle and went to Victoria to see it built in 1968.

We got the Honey Bird, a very desirable slip in Monterey as well as tons of useful gear and an outboard for $800 bucks flat.

Since we haven't gotten her out of the water yet we have no clue what she looks like underneath. She came with all brand spankin new rigging, and more sails than I know what to do with. She is completely gutted cleaned up and ready to be fit with a nicely innovated cabin courtesy of the handy man boyfriend.

Myself as well as my boyfriend are avid ocean people but for the most part are still on our first couple baby steps towards learning about sailing and are most likely the newest laughing stock/spectacle at the harbor, but you have to start somewhere! But we all started there, i'm feelin the sarcastic love from all the local sailors and getting a kick out of it.

Does anyone here have any information in regards to greywater storage, or rather just any information about the plumbing in these boats? The only serious problem we are running into so far is that some of the plumbing and valves look incredibly corroded.

Any information, recommendations, or things to look out for on the Haida 26' would be greatly appreciated as we go about working on our lovely little Honey Bird.

Depending on how the Survey goes we may keep it/ flip it/ or part it out. But my heart wants to sail it to the moon and back again! Thanks so much guys! Any Haida love I can get would be greatly appreciated!
I do believe you have purchased my dad's boat! He bought her new in the mid 60s, and sold her in the mid 70s to buy an Ericson 29. He called her the HONEY BIRD II, but perhaps an intervening owner dropped the II before you got her? Anyway, the week I was born in 1971, my dad won the MYC Wednesday Night race in her! I was too little when he sold her, so I don't remember sailing on her myself, but I do remember him pointing her out to me when we were at the Monterey harbor. He also built a scale balsa model of the boat, which I still have. He passed away in 2001.

Do you still have her? How is she?

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Just thought to post a quick picture of "WinAWil". Hull 61, built 1968. I am hoping for another 50 years for her.

Going to San Juan Islands again this summer. Hopefully Victoria too. Any other Haida 26 owners want to get together? We are in Sequim Wa.

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Yeah, I guess just too few of these wonderful pocket cruisers left to attract much attention.

I sold my boat last year and I hope she is ok. She is on a ball in Puget Sound.

Maybe someone will post.

Enjoy your boat.

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

There are a few still floating around Vancouver. I took a look at Hull 1 down at Mosquito Creek last year. Mine #59 is in West Van.

Hello,

I hope some of you are still out there. We are probably about to aquire "Iwalani", Hull #9 built by Mayhew and Strutt (1968 I believe). I have a few questions coming up. Current location, Vancouver.

Thx Gary

Re: Haida 26 Owners Group

Greetings,

I am forced to sell my Haida 26 (It is actually a 1964) flush deck hull #1 with the gold recesses around the ports and the extra stringers in the cockpit lockers.

Lots of renovations, new sails, AC DC blue sea panels, new fixtures, wiring, battery charger, galvanic isolator, Merc 2 stroke 8hp, newport solid fuel, new running rigging, still needs some TLC but a nice sailor.

Asking $3k
