Hartog 36' Steel Hull

Hello everyone,

I have a question on the Hartog 36' steel hull.

Does anyone know about these boats or have a layout. I going to be looking at one that needs some deck work and hull paint and I was just wondering how good there are and would it be worth it? I do like steel hulls, just be cause aluminum is just out of reach.
Please help if you can and if you know the layout a picture would be awesome..
Thanks for you help.

Thanks but, Im looking for how well they where built and if anything was a problem with them.. Also a layout of the boat, for some reason I cant find anything about them since the builder was basicly a fishing boat builder( trawlers)..
Thanks anyway..

I can tell you this particular boat has been on market for some time, as I was interested in it over a year ago. By the pictures, it looks like perhaps they might have done some additional work on her. I have not viewed the boat in person.

As w all steelies, you really have to take its condition on an individual basis.

Thanks, I just worry about how long its been sitting with no attention to the steel..
when you first saw it on line was it in the same condition? Plus I know that a lot of steel boats where put together alittle heavy. Are you in the bay area? Would you happen to know a surveyor that knows steel boats?

- Fairly similar condition. The engine looks cleaner and also looks like they installed some electronics. I honestly can't remember, but the deck looks the same.
- Yes bay area
- Not personally. here are some on my list. i dont speak for their quality. you will have to peruse yourself:
Wedlock, Ramsay & Whiting ? Northern California Marine Surveyors
R. J. Whitfield & Associates, Inc.
Sharpe Surveying & Consulting Marine Surveys & Consulting, yachts & small commercial vessels SAMS AMS
BAY MARINE SURVEY - SAN FRANCISCO - RESOURCES
Marine Surveys From Certified Marine Surveyors Located In San Francisco, CA.
San Francisco Bay Boating: Worldwide Marine Surveys, Inc.

I will say I like Norpac Yachts. Brokers there showed me a few boats, and I felt they were fair, experienced, and professional.

Thanks, I probably will call the surveyors and ask them about steel.. I would rather spend a few bucks and not get a pile!

Check condition of epoxy
Ultrasound thickness of hull
Consider isolation transformer as a necessity
Steel has it's own special learning and maintenance curve
Could be very well found boat but thoroughly survey and anticipate
Additional costs. . A full sandblast & epoxy is a serious add
Lorne Gould also good bay area steel boat surveyor
We bought our steel boat from norpac. A good outfit
