HBW Transmission woes- known re-builder?

I think the tranny on my Westerbeke 46 died from a lack of love.

Tranny fluid is something many do not think too much about but last fall in a moment of inspiration I checked the oil level and added a bit. Worked fine, but last week after a very long & arduous motor, it gave up the ghost while underway & won't spin in either forward or reverse. I rechecked the fluid level when we finally made it home and it was zilch. I believe it is an HBW model.

Hope springs eternal so I refilled it, but no joy. Anyone know of re-builders on the east coast? I'm sure they cost an arm and a leg, suggestions, other than the obvious are welcome.

Re: HBW Transmission woes- known re-builder?

A couple years ago I swapped my Hurth HBW50 for a New Age PRM 90. Got it from ASAP Supply on the UK, about $450 as I recall. Less than just the parts to rebuild the Hurth. Note the prices shown on thier site are "VAT included." Ship to the US and they drop the VAT, it's like 20%. That was a nice surprise. It's almost a drop in replacement, the only difference is the control shaft which is on the other side of the housing. I made a new cable bracket to fix that. Beta Marine uses PRM on some of their models so they must be good. I only had that boat two years after that but had no problems at all and haven't had any complaints from the buyer. Look on the label on yours to get the correct model number and check with ASAP for the equivalent.
