herreshoff didikai mizzan removed?

Why would someone remove the mizzen mast? Wouldn't that cause it to sail incorrectly?

Yes, no, maybe. On several ketch/yawl rigs the mizzen was placed as a rule bender. On our ketch the mizzen is only really missed when sailing hard on the wind (for helm balance) otherwise, while it's nice to have, it is often useless or counter productive.

It seems to me that Herreshoff must have had something in mind when he put it there.

IHe said this was one of his best designs. I'm thinking I might put it back.
