Hughes Columbia 8.7 1982 Question

Does anyone know where the bilge water pumps out to...the sea or the holding fank?

Re: Hughes Columbia 8.7 1982 Question

Hi There,

I'm just new to the forum as of today.

The original 8.7's were built with a manual hand operated bilge pump which was installed in the port aft area of the cockpit. An electric pump and float was optional. In either case bilge water is ejected overboard. The factory used a "anti-siphon loop even though the through-hull was above the water line, this prevented water ingress while heeling.

That was a popular spot as well but access via the sail locker was a little more difficult.
