Hurricane Boats

In looking at boats for sale that have lived many years in one hurricane alley or another, is there some easy way of verifying whether or not a boat has suffered significant damage at some point? I'm pretty sure there isn't a registry somewhere that keeps track of hurricane damaged boats, but perhaps there is something else that I'm not aware of. And in looking for evidence of damage, I would certainly check for signs of water in the cabin in areas that might have been overlooked in refinishing (behind doors and inside lockers), and impact damage particularly on the gunnel that might have been difficult to camouflage. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
