Must be French then, they wouldn't dream of having anything like that on board to slow them down. Fenders the size of a pink milk bottle and tooth brushes cut in half is the order of the day.

Re: Identify this yacht?

The red boat is Canadian and the white one, I recall as being Dutch flagged. Both seemed to be sailed by younger couples. The look of the boats is what I think of as minimalist. I appreciate that sort of cruising theme.

My personal experience in the tropics is that reefers/freezers are overrated. The time and effort to provision such food and maintain the systems is burdensome. One year, I ran a race boat with no reefer. We had a cooler for chilling bevs when racing only. That is a bit extreme for a live aboard cruiser. I observed that both boats have enough solar for a small reefer.

I have run boats with radar but I never use it. Same with microwaves and inverters and/or generators. A lot of stuff that is only used occasionally and take up a lot of space. Charter yachts are getting huge because charterers require so much luxury. Cruisers are much more spartan, usually by choice.

Me, I'm into sailing.

I appreciate the participation. Thanks.

An RM1200! Thanks Steadman. It is a fine looking craft indeed.

Thanks for the confirming pictures. I will amend my blog notes at Averisera for those of you who view such things.

You are welcome.
Glad to help with the photos and info...
But, PETE7 was the first to recognize it. He has a sharp eye.

I have now added it to the thread I started and still curate on what I consider Outstanding Boats (a personal selection of my favorites). I included some of my research on the specs for the boat too.

NOTE! The RM1200 is a particular model that was built for a number of years, but has been superseded by other models. They built the RM1200 till 2012. After that, the model number changed to RM1260 and RM1270, etc.

Here is a link to the thread, where you can see the specs on the RM1200.

Re: Identify this yacht?

Steadman, Pete7, and others... many thanks for the information.

I think that there is a lot to be said for plywood/chine vessels built by their eventual sailor-owners. We built a little, 15 footer, that was so much fun to build we wonder about building a boat for fast, simple cruising. Our Aphrodite is a stunning sailor but we suffer with a lack of headroom. The RM1200 certainly fits the bill. I'd simplify the layout even more. My wife and I love to cook so a little more room in the galley is an idea. We love our sailing friends but want them to go ashore at night so fewer berths. Those aside, I love the hull design.

As for Fort de France in '82... well, I was last there in 1971 and desire to return. Maybe next year. There is some great cruising in the Caribbean once you get away from the big charter boat regions.

Norm out...
