Info on the Challenger 32

Anyone know anything about the Challenger 32? We are going to look at one for sale with the thought of eventually cruising south from Seattle to Mexico for a year. The seller claims it to be a blue water sailor but we can't find much info on this make. We'd like to know a bit more about the Challenger in general before going to view it.

Re: Info on the Challenger 32

We owned one back in the late 80's and 90's. We liked the boat a lot and cruised it on the Gulf Coast with our two children. Recently an elderly lady, over 70, sailed one from Mexico to Hawaii single o. Good read if you can locate the article. I am now searching for the article as I had the magazine in the last two weeks.

Well rigged, tough boat. The "Orion" is still in the New Orleans area having survived "KATRINA" in '05, in the Orleans Marina. Ours had a Perkins 4-107. One problem was the fuel tank location. It is under the floor, above the keel, and is triangle shaped. The lower end tends to corrode as if the bilge is not dry as it sits in the water. We repaired ours as it was fairly simple to remove and access is good.

Re: Info on the Challenger 32

challenger 32 is a good cruising boat. solid and sweet in lines and sails well. isnt a common bot nor is it essentially production, aka clorox bottle. nic einterior--if it stil has a palmer gasoline engine, could easily enough be changed to diesel, or kept gasoline. some had engine under saloon table--palmer, as did my friends, and some have a different configuration.
is a good boat--you will enjoy it.

Re: Info on the Challenger 32

Thanks for the feedback. Although it isn't named in any of the lists of good sea worthy small boats the small amount of feedback I've recieved has been favourable and it does seem to be a good solidly built boat able to sail almost anywhere and a comfortable liveaboard.

Hope to hear more from those with personal experience or links to info on the Challenger.
