Re: Info required on Cavalier 39

Inchwood’s got a few “issues” shall we say that weren’t highlighted in the original advertisement. During the Covid 19 lockdown the situation was different to normal buying. We put in an offer which was accepted, then found a few deck leaks, sails that need replacing, missing rigging, dilapidated teak work & other issues that either were missed off in the ad, or misrepresented. Fortunately We spotted these issues prior to the survey taking place, and did try to negotiate the price with the vendor, however they weren’t interested.
Luckily (?) we’re only out of time, not money.
Frustrating though - a bit of a waste of time!
Thanks to all the forum users for your help. It is appreciated!

Re: Info required on Cavalier 39

Bad luck... or good luck finding all this before committing. We had plenty of experiences similar when buying. We actually bought Blue Dolphin from another forum member. Put an ad wanting a boat with specs and caught someone with a well maintained boat ready to retire from sailing. I guess every boat is for sale... so finding a good one in current use and planting a seed with the owner may be an option... you may not get the bargain but its likely to be well main tained...

Thumbs up Re: Info required on Cavalier 39

Good advice Mal. Dont get me wrong, Inchwood could be a good buy for someone, she’s just not for us! We’ve had enough do’er up’ers of the smaller variety to last anyone a lifetime - and the bigger they are the required work seems to grow exponentially!
We do like the layout of the Cavalier though - or likewise the Pacific 38.
If you make it to Wellington look us up, I’ll shout you a beverage or two for your help
