Ingrid....

Complete newbie, not sure how this works.....

Looking into buying an older, resin dipped, wooden Ingrid....What's the general opinion of this boat?

The Ingrid was probably the best of Atkins double ended designs. Fine enough entry for reasonable performance to windward and fast on a reach. Don't know what you mean resin dipped wooden boat. If it's a carvel planked boat that has been glassed over I would run away fast. Glassing traditionally planked boasts is asking for a lot of rot issues right quickly. Strip planked or cold molded wooden construction is a different story.

If the boat was one of the many fiberglass boats to the Ingrid design like Blue Water or Alajuela it's a whole different kettle of fish. The Alajuela is the best of the lot with most things done to optimize performance like central lead ballast and a tall stick. Most of the NW boats had iron ballast spread out which often makes them a bit tender and prone to hobby horsing. Will still sail well, just not as well as the Alajuela. Most of the Bluewater boats were owner built so quality of construction varies tremendously. If you have to live in a slip be aware that they are 47'+ overall so slip fees can eat you up if the marina charges by overall length.

Glossing over a planked hull is a death sentence.
Rainwater is trapped inside and destroys the wood.
As roverhi said. Run away.

They're heavy, so make sure you have enough wind to keep her moving. Or count on using a hefty diesel a lot. (Note references above to taller-sparred boats.)
