Inspection Question

We are looking at two different boats to buy, a catalina 22 or a hunter 25. Both were built in the 70's but are in good shape. I plan to look at the hull and cabin for blister and soft spots, the rigging and the sails, but since we only plan to sail them on the local lakes should I be really concerned with a more in-depth survey? The 25 is a fixed keel, should I pay any special attention to this area. if so, what shouild I look for?

Is there even such a thing as a marine surveyor in your neck of the woods? How much money is involved? There are some good tips for self-surveying a boat on this forum. And, these are relatively simple boats.

It may be too large a percentage of the purchase price to have either surveyed. My suggestion is to take someone along with you who knows what to look for when inspecting the boat and use the attached link as a guide:

Thanks!

Not many surveyors around these parts, so the inspection guide will be MOST helpful. The purchase price for either is less that $4,000 and the Hunter 25 has been taken care of like it is a member of their family, so I'm leaning toward it.

Thanks for the help!
