Installing volvo shaft seal in tight space

Im out on the hard and planning on changing my volvo shaft seal. Only problem is the beneteau first 42 is very limited on the space. On top is the diesel tank and in front of the shaft sea the motor. I lnow you have to install these shaft seals carefully or you mess them up. I was thinking maybe pulling the motor a little into the cabin to make some space but that is the last option. Or maybe pull the shaft put and then slowly slide it back in? Any advice is appreciated. Click image for larger version

Re: Installing volvo shaft seal in tight space

I had similar space issues with my first 456 when I wanted to pull the transmission.

I ended up raising the back of the engine by 5 inches, rather than moving it forward.

Re: Installing volvo shaft seal in tight space

If you buy a new Volvo lipseal you get a handy plastic lipprotector tool. Use this for installing the seal over the shaft and you don’t have to worry about damaging the lips.
